Statement.

Visual artist working in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Hudson Lalor’s work is representational and detailed with a surreal sensibility. An autobiographical narrative runs through the work, exploring issues such as spousal abuse, interpersonal relationships and female agency.

Depicting work with stories that can be emotionally raw and evoke feelings of discomfort, she aims to produce a visual manifestation of an inner state, having the courage to expose fears and vulnerabilities. She wants to communicate these emotive issues to a viewership and to challenge the parameters and belief systems of the culture in which she was raised, lifting the polite facade and exploring beneath the veneer of our emotional masks.

Utilising strong colour and dramatic lighting in her work she achieves a high level of realism in her finished paintings, using a broad range of techniques and media in the construction of her primary visual references. She attains this through the use of photography, photoshop, model making, sculpture, dressmaking, embroidery and crochet.
